Abdoulaye Diabate & Banning Eyre
Malian griot guitarist and singer par excellence, Abdoulaye Diabate and guitarist Banning Eyre. From the New York Guitar Festival's second biennial Guitar Marathon at the 92nd Street Y's Kaufman Auditorium, January 25, 2004. Banning Eyre writes about international music, especially contemporary African music. He has traveled to Africa 11 times and written three books on his research there, including the acclaimed In Griot Time: An American Guitarist in Mali. Eyre reports on world music for NPR's All Things Considered and produces for the public radio series Afropop Worldwide. Abdoulaye Diabate is a mega star in his native Mali.
